TINTON FALLS, NJ – Compassion-First Pet Hospitals is proud to announce the first-ever airport veterinary hospital. AirHeart Pet Hospital is staffed by dedicated veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and veterinary assistants to provide exemplary veterinary care to pets and service animals in an airport setting. Located in The ARK at JFK at the John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), AirHeart Pet Hospital serves military personnel, area residents, travelers, JFK Airport employees, and employees of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, all from a convenient location right inside the airport itself.
Because medical emergencies can happen at any time, even in the midst of travel plans, the purpose of the AirHeart Pet Hospital is to provide state-of-the-art care for pets and other animals where it is needed most. With five full-time veterinarians, 7 licensed veterinary technicians, and 7 dedicated veterinary assistants on staff, AirHeart Pet Hospital is prepared for anything from routine veterinary medical care to mid-trip emergencies. Conveniently located right in the JFK airport, the facility includes all the latest in veterinary care and amenities, including six exam rooms, a radiology suite, a suite set aside for dental and specialty procedures, two operating rooms, three patient wards, two isolation wards, an on-site pharmacy, and a lab.
"With more than two million pets and other live animals being transported annually in the U.S., veterinary medical care is critically needed," says John Payne, CEO of Compassion-First Pet Hospitals. Since 2014, Compassion-First has been helping pet hospitals across the country to deliver the best care possible to both pets and their owners. As a family of 30 veterinary hospitals, Compassion-First's members share resources and best practices while also allowing each hospital the autonomy to best serve their individual communities. By adding the AirHeart Pet Hospital to the Compassion-First family, Payne hopes that they can act as a model to other airports across the country and around the world to provide critical medical care to pets and other animals on their travels and provide peace of mind to their owners wherever they are.
The new AirHeart Pet Hospital is located inside The ARK, the first-ever privately owned animal terminal and quarantine center at 78A N. Boundary Road in Jamaica, New York. As part of the JFK Airport, The ARK Pet Oasis and Equine Export Center is a privately owned and operated terminal catering to animals of all kinds, including horses, cats, and dogs, as well as more unusual pets such as rabbits, turtles, mice, goats, and many others. It has been in operation since January 2, 2017. With the addition of the AirHeart Pet Hospital, The ARK will become a full-service stop for pets and other animals of all types. Initially, AirHeart will provide primary and urgent care Monday through Saturday from 8am to 6pm, but plans are already in place to add extended hours and 24-hour emergency services.
