David C. Leopold, M.D., DABFM, DABOIM, is Network Medical Director for Hackensack Meridian Integrative Health & Medicine. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine and American Board of Integrative Medicine. Dr. Leopold is a physician acupuncturist and a Certified HeartMath Practitioner.
Dr. Leopold is the Co-Director (Clinical Lead) of Nutrition, Metabolism and Digestion at Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine at Seton Hall University. In addition, he is part of the medical school’s Human Dimension (HD) Leadership Team, where he has developed extensive foundational components of the HD curriculum, linking the fundamentals of health; stress management, activity, sleep, nutrition and purpose directly to outcomes as important determinants of health.
Dr. Leopold serves as Medical Supervisor of the Behavioral Health Home Treatment Team which offers a team-based clinical approach to individuals with multiple chronic health conditions, including mental health and substance use disorders.
Prior to joining Hackensack Meridian Health, Dr. Leopold was with the world-renowned Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine where he served as Director of Health, Wellness and Cancer Survivorship Services, Director of Integrative Medical Education and Co-Director Acupuncture Services.
After completing his medical residency at the University of Southern California and Board Certification in Family Medicine, Dr. Leopold completed his Fellowship in Integrative Medicine and Integrative Pain Management at Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine. He completed training as a physician acupuncturist and has practiced medical acupuncture for over 17 years. He was among the first recipients of the Bravewell Scholarship for Integrative Medicine and completed a two-year Fellowship at the University of Arizona Program in Integrative Medicine under the guidance of Dr. Andrew Weil. In February 2016, Dr. Leopold completed Duke University’s Leadership Program in Integrative Healthcare. Member of the Academy of Integrative Pain Management (formerly American Academy of Pain Management).
